History
The English Football League traces its institutional history to 1888, when the original Football League was formed by twelve clubs. The modern Championship sits directly below the Premier League and combines promotion races, relegated top-flight clubs and historically significant teams from across England and Wales.
Footballopedia uses the Championship as a bridge between Premier League history and deeper club-season coverage. Its graph connects promotion and relegation seasons, historic clubs, managers, stadiums and the wider EFL competition structure.
