THE STORY

History of MLS

History

MLS began play with ten clubs and expanded steadily across the United States and Canada. Its structure, franchise model, conference system and playoff championship distinguish it from many European leagues, while designated players and academy development have helped connect the competition to the global transfer market.

Footballopedia links MLS to North American clubs, stadiums, international players, the United States and Canada national teams, World Cup cycles and careers that span Europe and North America.
