The full story
Yashin became famous for an aggressive, commanding interpretation of goalkeeping built around positioning, athletic saves and control of the penalty area. He spent his senior club career with Dynamo Moscow and helped the Soviet Union win Olympic gold in 1956 and the first European Nations’ Cup in 1960. UEFA records him as the only goalkeeper to have won the Ballon d’Or, an award he received in 1963.
Dressed almost invariably in dark colours, Yashin became known internationally as the Black Spider and appeared in multiple World Cups for the Soviet Union. Footballopedia links him to Dynamo Moscow, Soviet football, EURO 1960, World Cup history, the Ballon d’Or and the later Yashin Trophy, making his page the main historical goalkeeper hub in the evergreen graph.
