Overview
The Derby della Lanterna is the Genoa city rivalry between Sampdoria and Genoa, named for the city’s historic lighthouse.
History
The first derby between the newly formed Sampdoria and Genoa was played on 3 November 1946 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, with Sampdoria winning 3–0. It became one of Italy’s defining city rivalries.
