History

Portugal played its first official international against Spain in Madrid on 18 December 1921. The team gradually established itself internationally and made its first FIFA World Cup appearance in 1966, when a side built around Eusébio finished third after a memorable tournament in England. Portugal became a regular presence at major tournaments from the late twentieth century onward. The team reached the EURO 2004 final on home soil and won its first senior major title at EURO 2016. Footballopedia uses Portugal as a national-team hub connecting Eusébio, Cristiano Ronaldo, major tournament editions, managers and historic matches.
