History

Guardiola came through Barcelona’s academy and played as the holding midfielder in Johan Cruyff’s Dream Team before moving into coaching. After leading Barcelona B, he took charge of the first team in 2008 and won a treble in his first season. His Barcelona side combined positional structure, aggressive pressing and a core of academy-trained players, winning multiple domestic titles and two Champions Leagues during his four-year tenure. He later managed Bayern Munich and joined Manchester City in 2016. At City he oversaw the most successful period in the club’s history, including repeated Premier League titles, record points totals and the 2022/23 treble.
