History
The club traces its roots to a football team formed by St Mark's Church in West Gorton in 1880. That side evolved into Ardwick AFC, became a Football League member in the 1890s and was reorganised as Manchester City Football Club in 1894. City won the FA Cup in 1904, becoming the first Manchester club to claim a major national trophy. The club later played at Maine Road for eight decades before moving to the City of Manchester Stadium, now known as the Etihad Stadium. Manchester City's modern rise added a sustained era of Premier League success and a first Champions League title, while the Manchester derby became one of the league's central rivalries.
