The full story
Müller joined Bayern Munich in 1964 and became the scoring reference point of the club’s first golden era. Bayern’s records credit him with 566 goals in 607 competitive appearances, while his 365 Bundesliga goals remain one of the defining individual records in German football. He won four Bundesliga titles, four German cups and three consecutive European Cups with Bayern, as well as the 1970 Ballon d’Or.
With West Germany Müller won EURO 1972 and the 1974 World Cup, scoring the winning goal in the final against the Netherlands. His reputation rested less on elaborate build-up play than on movement and finishing inside crowded penalty areas. Footballopedia links him to Bayern, Germany, World Cup 1974, EURO 1972, the European Cup, Beckenbauer and the Gerd Müller Trophy.
