History
Founded originally as a rowing club in 1895, Flamengo established a football department in the early twentieth century and developed into one of Brazil’s most widely supported clubs. The 1981 side led by Zico won both the Copa Libertadores and the Intercontinental Cup, creating one of the club’s defining historical peaks, while later generations added further continental titles.
