History

AFC Ajax was founded on 18 March 1900 and reached the Dutch top flight in the early twentieth century. The club’s defining international era came around the turn of the 1970s, when teams built around Johan Cruyff won three consecutive European Cups from 1971 to 1973. Ajax returned to the summit of Europe by winning the Champions League in 1995.
