History

Liverpool FC officially came into existence on 3 June 1892. The club was created after Everton left Anfield following a dispute with John Houlding, leaving Houlding with a ground but no team. Liverpool began playing at Anfield that same year and quickly entered organised league competition. The club's later history includes dominant domestic periods under managers such as Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and Kenny Dalglish, as well as repeated European success. Anfield, the Merseyside football culture and rivalries with clubs including Manchester United and Everton are fundamental to Liverpool's identity. In the modern era the club continued to connect English league history with the Champions League. Footballopedia treats Liverpool as a hub for the Premier League, European Cup/Champions League, Anfield, managers, players, major finals and the broader story of English club football.
